✨ Moroccan Carob Pods — Naturally Sweet, Deeply Rooted in Tradition
Carob is the long, dark-brown fruit pod of the carob tree, Ceratonia siliqua. Known as carob, locust bean, St John’s bread, caroubier, caroube, kharoub, khroub and الخروب, it has a naturally sweet, malty character with a gentle cocoa-like aroma. The photograph shows whole dried pods, including an opened pod with its smooth brown seeds inside. These firm, naturally dried pods bring an old Mediterranean pantry ingredient to the home kitchen.
🌿 Traditional and Cultural Uses
Across Morocco and the wider Mediterranean, kharoub was traditionally kept as a nourishing pantry fruit and prepared in family kitchens. It was steeped or simmered into a warm winter drink, ground for rustic baking, and worked into sweet preparations. In household tradition, a warm carob drink was also prepared for throat comfort and digestive ease; these are traditional uses, not a modern treatment claim. Its naturally rich taste made it a familiar alternative when a recipe called for a dark, roasted flavour.
🍵 How to Use Carob Pods
- 🍵 Simmer broken carob pods in water, then strain for a warm, naturally sweet drink.
- 🥣 Add finely ground carob to porridge, yoghurt, smoothies or homemade energy bites.
- 🍰 Use carob powder made from the pods in cakes, biscuits and traditional sweet recipes.
- 🍯 Cook the pods gently to make a thick carob syrup for drizzling or flavouring desserts.
🥣 Simple Carob Drink Preparation
- Rinse the whole pods and break them into smaller pieces.
- Place the pieces in a saucepan with water and bring gently to a simmer.
- Let the flavour infuse, then strain out the pod pieces and seeds.
- Serve warm on its own or use the infused liquid in a favourite recipe.

🔬 Product Profile
Carob is a fruit pod from an evergreen tree in the legume family, Fabaceae. It is also called locust bean because of its broad, pod-shaped fruit. Our product is supplied as whole, naturally dried brown pods with the seeds still inside, not as an added-sugar blend or ready-made powder.
