✨ Moroccan Natural Black Soap — The Essential Hammam Paste
Moroccan Natural Black Soap is the dark, silky soap paste at the heart of the traditional hammam. Known as Savon Beldi, sabon beldi, saboun beldi, Moroccan black soap and الصابون البلدي, it has a deep brown-to-black colour, a smooth, glossy texture and a naturally olive-like scent. Unlike a hard bar, it is a soft paste that spreads easily over warm, damp skin.
🌿 Traditional and Cultural Uses
In Moroccan bathing tradition, Savon Beldi was used in the warm steam of the hammam to soften the skin before a kessa glove exfoliation. It has long been part of family self-care and bridal preparation, where the unhurried sequence of steam, black soap, kessa and rinsing turns a bath into a refreshing ritual. Traditionally, it was used to lift the surface buildup that the kessa glove can then sweep away.
🧴 How to Use
- 🚿 Warm the body with a shower or steam so the skin is damp and comfortable.
- 🫒 Smooth a thin layer of black soap over the body and leave it briefly while you relax in the warmth.
- 🧤 Rinse, then use a damp kessa glove with gentle, circular strokes.
- 💧 Rinse again and follow with your usual body care if desired.
🧾 Ingredients
Traditional Savon Beldi usually contains olive oil or olive paste that is transformed into a soft soap with an alkaline ingredient. Colour, aroma and texture can vary naturally from batch to batch; this product is supplied as a ready-to-use dark soap paste.
